Because of our group size, we rarely get to visit, and support, some of the smaller wine shops & venues around Richmond. So we’re trying something new this summer by crafting smaller events and offering multiple sessions to choose from — some may be on the same night, some may be on different nights. Our June event is an example of where we’re offering two sessions to choose from on the same night (5:15 & 7:15 pm) and each session is limited to 15-people max.  Due to the special nature of this class and the size limitation, we will limit registration to members only until June 4th.  If seats are still available, we will open it up to guest participation at that time.  Members, if you want to come, register early!!

So with that as the introduction, we’re pleased to announce that registration is now open for our June wine education event at J. Emerson’s wine shop featuring Loire Icons: Sancerre & Pouilly-Fume.  In this class, we’ll be treated to a “blind” Sancerre  & Pouilly-Fume wine tasting to learn how soil differences (e.g., flint, clay, etc.) affect wine flavor and taste these differences by sampling 8 wines (two four-sample flights). Not only are these wines very nice summertime wines, soil is very interesting for this style of wine. Every participant will have a soil sample/tasting guide sheet for notes and family-style charcuterie will be available for sharing at the table.

If you haven’t been to J. Emerson before, here are a few fun facts.

• J. Emerson is celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.  They are the area’s longest-established fine wine retailer
• They’re selling 40th year t-shirts, mugs etc. to celebrate their anniversary and “shop dog” Lincoln is featured on one of the mugs
• Jim Compton Sr. helped us tremendously in March & May 2021 when Covid restrictions kept us from enjoying in-person events by facilitating and hosting two virtual WWS classes.  We couldn’t have done it without them.
• Jim’s son James has taken over the reins at J. Emerson and will be our education guide for our June class.

Venue Notes:  Our event will be held in wine shop. There is a shared parking lot behind the store and street parking in the vicinity.  The wine shop will be open! Click here to visit J. Emerson’s website.

First session will begin promptly at 5:15 and should end by 6:45 pm.  Second session will begin by 7:15 pm and end around 8:45 pm.  Please select your preferred class time when you register.  We do hope you’ll join us!
