Broken Tulip Social Eatery

3129 W. Cary Street, Richmond, VA 23221

If you enjoy farm-to-table, creative cuisine you do not want to miss our August wine tasting event at The Broken Tulip Social Eatery in Carytown. Broken Tulip serves seasonal dishes using area-sourced ingredients.  In fact, their ingredients are SO fresh that the menus are not available in advance!  All meal courses are based off of local items that they select for that evening’s meal. Judging by the outstanding online reviews and available photos, they know what they’re doing!

Here’s what we do know about our event — we expect the menu to include 4 small plates paired with wines, and dietary restrictions are typically accommodated. The Broken Tulip is also a small market and wine shop.  This is a small venue with max capacity of 24 people.  Registration will be limited to members only for the first 5 days, after which we will open it up to non-members as well.

This is where we’d typically list the food courses and wine pairings, but instead, we’ll tell you a little more about our hosts for the night. They have an interesting story. Come join us and meet them in person! We’re told you won’t be disappointed.

The Broken Tulip is owned and operated by husband and wife team David Crabtree-Logan and Sariann Lehrer. They met in the kitchen of a country pub in England, fell in love and began dreaming of their own restaurant.  They believe that a restaurant should serve important social functions, the most elemental of which is to allow all kinds of folk to break bread together and enjoy the pleasures of the table.

David has trained in some of  Scotland’s top kitchens but he also spent his twenties as a journeyman cook in the truest sense of the world, working variously in Ireland, Oregon, Yorkshire and Bristol and travelling in Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent and Western Europe, all the while delighting in the endless capacity for humans to create deliciousness from what they have available to them and becoming certain that the learning of a cook can never be complete.

While living in Scotland, Sariann pursued postgraduate studies in Gastronomy at Queen Margaret University, where her love of historical foods and recipes was affirmed. She enjoys rekindling love for lost foods, digging into the history behind them, and finding a place for them in our varied cultures today.
